London Mayoral Elections
On 1 May 2008, Londoners will elect their Mayor and London Assembly members. The election happens every 4 years and the current mayor, Ken Livingston, was the first London Mayor to be elected under the present system.
The body responsible for planning and managing the entire elections process is "London Elects",a team working directly for the Greater London Returning Officer (GLRO), Anthony Mayer. It has responsibility forensuring the electionit is carried out accurately and in an unbiased and fair manner.
Over the next year, London Elects will work with the 32 London boroughs and the City of London to set up the elections and keep Londoners informed about the elections and the electoral process. London Elects will provide information and guidance to voters, candidates, political parties, and the media.
The timetable for nominations has not yet been confirmed. If you are considering standing as a candidate for Mayor of London or the London Assembly, please contact the London Elects team to register your interest. They can provide you with more information about the nomination process and the expected timetable.
