Camden Market
Vying with Portobello Road for the title of London's most popular market, there are actually a number of distinct markets in Camden which combine to give the visitor a great day out and bargains galore. Unsurprisingly, the most popular day to visit is Saturday (on our most recent visit the place was absolutely heaving with locals and tourists alike). Indeed, the Tube station at Camden Town was closed to avoid congestion, so you may well find that a walk down to Mornington Crescent is necessary for your return journey. But don't let that dissuade you from visiting!
The markets can be divided up as follows:-

Camden Buck Street Market
Situated on Camden High Street the nearest underground station is Camden Town. A large green and yellow sign highlights this popular and crowded market whose stall holders deal primarily in clothes and second-hand records. There's also a couple of fast food stalls here, just in case you need food on the run. Open from Thursday to Saturday. This busy jumble of around 200 stalls was originally known as Buck Street Market. A few stallholders selling their own designs of jewellery and clothing are particularly worth seeking out.

Camden Passage
Upper Street, N1, Website: www.islington.gov.uk/whatson, Tube: Angel, Show Map
Camden Passage just off Upper Street, Islington (not to be confused with the Camden Town markets) is a good place to head if you've a penchant for antiques. With a mix of stalls, shops and an enclosed mall, pitches are normally set up on Wednesdays and Saturdays, while the passage's permanent shops are open during the week. Of course, once you’ve finished browsing, take a break in one of the many trendy bars and restaurants that line Upper Street.

Inverness Street
Primarily a fruit 'n' veg market with a couple of stalls selling London souvenirs such as T-Shirts, scarves and the like. From around 1900 Inverness Street was the location of the Camden Town fruit and vegetable market but in recent years stalls selling bargain clothing, footwear and souvenirs have gradually taken over and changed its character. This street is now well-known for its excellent continental style bar/restaurants and a number of specialist shops. Stalls trade 7days a week. 8.30 am till 5pm.Bars & restaurants stay open late

Camden Canal Market
This narrow passage way, which leads down towards the canal, plays host to numerous stalls selling bric-a-brac (junk or trendy stuff depending on your point of view) jewellery, gifts, clothes, collectables, records and some antiques. Over 200 in total, with a good selection of take-away food as well. Only operates at weekends (including Friday). About 200 stalls and shop units sell a wide range of goods including fashion accessories, recorded music, computer games, clothing, jewellery, giftware and a few traders offer collectables. You can also enjoy international take-away food here. For many years this market was an unpretentious general market, but it has now become a much more interesting place to visit. Perhaps less well known than the other Camden markets, the Canal Market lies hidden off to the east of the main road running between Camden Town and Chalk Farm Underground stations. Turn off the main road into the covered entrance tunnel by the road bridge, or enter directly from the canal towpath

Camden Lock Market
An excellent mix of goods both in the main courtyard by the lock and the renovated buildings that surround it. Trendy fashions, masses of craft goods, many with an ethnic flavour, leatherwear and antiques. To amuse the mind and entertain the whole family discover an assortment of board games, mind teasers, and juggling equipment, a wide range of music and cult films and from a selection of independent bookshops everything from poetry to politics. To decorate any home and give as wonderful gifts, explore a selection of home furnishings, unique fabrics, paintings and prints. Made-to-order & handcrafted mirrors and frames are also available. To amuse the mind and entertain the whole family discover an assortment of board games, mind teasers, and juggling equipment, a wide range of music and cult films and from a selection of independent bookshops everything from poetry to politics. If you need a meal or light refreshment there are plenty of places at the Lock to enjoy fine food and drink, especially at the weekend

To find Camden Lock Market walk up Camden High Street from Camden Town station until you see this building. The market lies to your left.

Stables Market
Our favourite part of the overall Camden "experience" and a real attack on the senses, but in the best possible way. Housed in a historical horse stable complex (which dates back to 1854), you’ll find an impressive variety of fashion ranging from goth, fetish and cyberpunk to vintage, retro and second-hand. In addition, the market's old horse hospital houses masses of music stalls selling everything from drum 'n' bass to jazz, plus leather goods, antiques and other accessories. What's more, your taste buds are tempted all the while by the smell of food (including Japanese, Chinese and Caribbean). Served also by Chalk Farm Tube. The nearest Underground station is Chalk Farm on the Northern Line or if you walk up from Camden Town the Stables market is the last market on the left, after the railway bridge. At the Stables Market there is much to appeal to people of all ages and tastes. Enjoy a huge choice of hot and cold food from the many units with mini-kitchens serving food from almost all countries under the sun.

You will find plenty of good places to sit with your plate and watch the passing crowd of visitors as everyone tries to spot the latest street fashions. From the latest in adventurous alternative fashion, through the best selection of vintage clothing shops in London, to the joy of collecting bottles. Its a great and varied place to shop.

In total around 500 shops and stalls trade here at the weekend and many are now open every day of the week.In addition to the markets, Camden High Street also has some of the trendiest fashion shops in town and shop front décors which have to be seen to be believed!
